FEB Unismuh Students Introduce Financial Literacy in International Community Service in Thailand

UNISMUH.AC.ID, NARATHIWAT, SOUTHERN THAILAND — Students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Universitas Muhammadiyah (Unismuh) Makassar have made a tangible contribution to the 2nd Batch of the International Community Service (KKN) program, which took place in Southern Thailand on Monday, June 8, 2026.

Out of the 30 students participating in the International Community Service, organized by the Lembaga Penelitian, Pengembangan dan Pengabdian Masyarakat (LP3M) of Unismuh Makassar, three are from FEB, consisting of one student from the Accounting Program and two students from the Management Program.

One of the activities that garnered attention was the financial literacy education program, conducted by Sudirman, a student from the Accounting Program, at Narawit Islam School, Narathiwat. Through this program, he implemented the academic knowledge he gained in the university to improve students' understanding of the importance of financial management from a young age.

The materials covered basic personal financial management concepts, the importance of saving, the difference between needs and wants, and a simple introduction to budgeting. The material was delivered interactively through discussions, simulations, and Q&A sessions tailored to the students' level of understanding.

The enthusiasm of the participants was evident throughout the activities. The students actively participated in discussions and engaged in various simulations as part of the learning process.

In addition to conducting the financial literacy program, Sudirman also participated in various school and cultural activities during his service in Southern Thailand. At the beginning of his assignment, he attended a school orientation to understand the education system, culture, and local characteristics.

He also participated in the celebration of the Birthday of the Queen of Thailand, which was part of the cross-cultural learning experience during the International KKN program.

Dr. Edi Jusriadi, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Unismuh Makassar, praised the involvement of the FEB students in the international program. He stated that the International KKN program is an important learning space to develop academic competence while expanding students' global perspective.

"We strongly support the involvement of FEB students in various international programs. Experiences like these not only enhance students' cross-cultural adaptation and communication skills, but also provide a platform for students to implement their knowledge in the campus in a real-world context in the international community. The financial literacy program conducted by the Accounting students is an example of how economic knowledge can directly benefit society," he said.

Similarly, Muhammad Khaedar Sahib, Head of the Accounting Program at Unismuh Makassar, stated that the activities conducted by Sudirman demonstrate the relevance of accounting knowledge in everyday life.

"Accounting is not just about financial reports or the business world, but also about building financial awareness and good behavior from a young age. We are proud that students can apply their knowledge through a simple but impactful educational program for students in Thailand. This shows that the competencies of Unismuh Accounting graduates can contribute in various contexts, including at the international level," he said.

The 2nd Batch of the International KKN program is part of Unismuh Makassar's efforts to broaden students' international experience through community service projects based on global collaboration. Through this program, students not only learn in an international environment, but also play a role as agents of change, bringing knowledge and positive values to the community.

The involvement of FEB students in this program also reflects the faculty's commitment to supporting internationalization in higher education and preparing graduates with professional competence, social awareness, and a global perspective.
